Computer Aided Design - CAD (3D Modeling)
CAD is the language of mechanical engineers. It allows you to represent an idea visually in 3D and is essential to any product development operation. Most CAD software start as a 2D "sketch" and then can be transformed into a 3D object using multiple features like extrude, revolve, or spline. We mainly use Onshape (mostly) and Solidworks so get familiar with these platforms! If you learn one, you'll be a natural in another one!
OnShapeOnshape is a free to use, cloud-based CAD software that we highly recommend!
We made our own tutorial for our Valentines Day workshop so check that out below: Follow the tutorials on this page

SolidWorksSolidworks is one of the most commonly used CAD softwares in the industry and is taught to all incoming MAE majors. It's a lot more powerful than onshape for simulations, rendering, and large assemblies. You can access it for free through UF Apps or message us to get a student license!
